General Information:

Event Information:

  • Anyone can come for the day to participate and operate at the station

  • Day Visitors, please enter the park and visit the ranger station, where we offer pre-paid passes for free entry.

  • If you missed the registration window, please email us for more details.

  • For registered campers, we have catered the weekend. If you didn't register, we are asking for a suggested donation of 20$ to cover the extra food.

  • We will be livestreaming the event on our YouTube channel for the full 24 hours and will be giving away a ton of items from Icom, Spooltenna, Live Free, and Ham, along with a few mystery boxes.

  • There will be water and soda available for everyone

Radio Stuff

We will have a couple of talk-ins for the Event on your trip or when you're at the park.

Friday Arrival ONLY

  • This has been pre-arranged/organized, so if you didn’t participate in the Friday overnight and would like to, please email Eric at livefreeandham@gmail.com to discuss.

  • Arrival Time: 11 am - 7 pm Note: Please contact me via cell if you will be arriving late (and not notifying us prior)

  • You will enter the park on Campground Rd. Proceed straight into check-in at the Park Office - Let them know you are part of the Ham Radio Event. THEN turn left onto Beach Road (this road is located before entering the Park and is gated). Follow it down to the end and take a right, proceed to the end, where you will find the campsite.

Saturday Arrival

  • Arrival Time: 8 am to noon

  • You will enter the park on Campground Rd. After crossing the railroad tracks, turn left onto Beach Road (this road is located before entering the Park and is gated). Follow it down to the end and take a right, proceed to the end, where you will find the campsite.

  • Upon arrival at the camp area, please check in with us so we can confirm your spot.

  • RVs must park in a designated location. Please find Todd, Paul, or Eric to get your spot.

  • Ground Tenting will direct you to the designated setup area.

  • Also, if using our Club Repeater (GSARA), please be mindful of the conversations, as there are “scheduled” talks to a Ham, as some of our club members will be doing a community outreach and holding a QSO. Feel free to jump in and answer and talk to a kid on the repeater!

If you paid for Did you pay for food for the weekend?

The Event will be catered on Saturday and Sunday. You are not required to participate and are welcome to bring your own meals. We will have a donation box available if you would like to help support the cause.

  • Saturday Afternoon - Pizzas / Soda / Water

  • Saturday Evening - Catered BBQ from Messy Mike’s consisting of Pulled Pork, Brisket, Pulled Chicken, Coleslaw, Mac &Cheese, and BBQ Beans. Water/Soda provided.

  • Sunday Morning - Bacon, Eggs, Hashbrowns (sandwich style), and Coffee. Cooked by Chef’s Grouch and the General (Todd)

  • BYOB but please drink responsibily

24 Hour POTA

We will be running a 24-hour live stream from 1 pm (1300) on Saturday afternoon to 1 pm on Sunday. We are looking for individuals to join us and operate!

You don’t need any prior experience or a license (as we’ll have a licensed person with you). We will be using the Club Call W1LFH, so you’ll have access to all the bands and privileges during the weekend.

Operators will receive credit for the activation, as the main log will track the operator's call signs. We can provide copies of the log after the event is over if requested.

Station Configurations:

  • Antennas: BuddieHex Pro into a tri-plexer. We will have an additional Wire antenna or two for the lower bands.

  • Station #1 DX10 - Running SSB only with/ mic and N3FJP Logger.

  • Station #2 DX10 - Running Digital Modes (FT8/4, JS8Call, SSTV) with N3FJP Logging computer networked.

Live Stream Event:

We will also be hanging out and doing random giveaways, etc. As we stated, this will be live-streamed, so if you want to come and get your “15 seconds” of YT fame, you can make some contacts and interact with the chat!

  • Fully stocked pond for fishing (need a day fishing pass)

  • Hiking trails all around the park

  • Swimming and sun

  • Plenty of hangout time and radio play

  • On-site restrooms are conveniently located near our site.

Event facilities/amenities:

  • Yes, you're welcome to come for the day. We have a number of day passes that have already been paid in advance. When entering the park, please inform the rangers that you are here for the Ham Radio Event.

  • Yes! We have a quick sign up sheet where folks can pick a time slot(s) to operate as W1LFH.

  • You are 100% able to. We just ask that if you want to activate the park on your own, you pick a location away from the site so as not to interfere with the activation. Again, we will have a dedicated station for everyone. See Station setup for more details

  • Yes, We’ll happily take your money :)

    This is 100% optional and not required as this is an event we all want you to come and be part of!

  • We will be operating one (2) POTA Stations using the club callsign W1LFH. We will have all the necessary equipment, including logging, radios, and antennas, set up for the event, and are seeking volunteers to sign up for operating shifts for the full 24 hours.

Are there other activities available to me?

  • We will be located next to a fully stocked pond, where you can fish. Please remember to obtain a day fishing license and bring your own equipment.

  • There are several hiking trails in and around the park that offer beautiful views of the fall scenery.

  • Swimming will be available for those who are brave enough to take the plunge!

  • We will also have space for various outdoor games. If you have games like horseshoes, bocce, or similar items, feel free to bring them along and set up a mini tournament.
